Description

Rush commission for :iconmihoshik: - Ilena in a tight Iron Maiden T-shirt, with a XCOM logo backdrop. Holding a Toblerone bar. With a slight smile on her face.
This time I worked in Iron Maiden shirt logo and Toblerone logo in the
drawing - was quite interesting, but have lot to learn still! Very happy with the bar itself :P

If understood correctly, its fanart for fanwritting - Link to the story thread:

This is my first time offering a critique, but I really love your work so I thought I would offer a few words.

The idea of an alien enjoying Earth's pop culture is perhaps cliche, but I understand that this was a commission. Plus I don't recall seeing something that would place a fiction-future Asari into a current-day Earth environment - so that increases the originality.

Your technique is wonderful. Although you perform at a high level as a digital illustrator, I enjoy how you are continually asking for feedback to further improve your skills. Your grasp of how to draw believable folds is quite good, so the mass of her body contained within the fabric of her tshirt is convincing.

You do a great job of balancing the colors between the foreground subject as a cool-color skintone wearing a warm-colored shirt against another cool-colored backdrop. There is enough difference in contrast and saturation.

Your use of light and shadow to bring out the dimension of the character is very effective. The complex shape of her head has a solid consistent feel because of the shading. The only aspect of your shading in this image that seems inconsistent is her right arm. Somehow I am expecting that arm to fall in more shadow because of its position behind her back. I guess I'm expecting her torso shadow to occlude the light falling on that arm a little more. In this current iteration of this image, I can't help feeling that her arm appears to be more in the foreground because of the shading - if it weren't for the fact that you abruptly can't see her hand because her torso is in the way.

I hope this is at least somewhat helpful.
